What is Encompass?
Choosing to care for a loved one is not a commitment to be taken lightly. Many situations and circumstances can be time-consuming, physically demanding, and emotionally draining. But when caregivers draw on each other for advice, tips, or simply just to listen, we can realize the meaning of Scripture which says, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2) It is my heart’s desire to come alongside other caregivers to support and sustain them through this season of life. Together, we can learn to take care of ourselves and others, all while loving as Jesus loved.
Our mission is to educate, empower and embrace those in challenging seasons of life who are caring for loved ones at home.
Why choose Encompass?
Encompass was born out of my desire to share both my personal and professional experiences with other caregivers. As I have been a caregiver myself, I understand the highs and lows. Many times it is helpful to have someone who can listen and understand the caregiver life. Also, since I am an occupational therapist, I can recognize safety issues, provide home modification ideas, suggest adaptive equipment, and help problem solve various issues that inevitably happen.
About Me
After graduating from Illinois Central College, I transferred to St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, to study occupational therapy. My clinical placements included a school classroom of autistic students, an inpatient and outpatient mental health unit, and an inpatient rehabilitation unit. Upon graduating with my bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy, I began employment for OSF – Peoria at their outpatient rehabilitation facility. My primary focus was working with neurological patients and helping to restore them to their maximum level of independence. The interdisciplinary approach was evident there as we all worked together to provide our patients with the most complete recovery possible for them.
More recently I have had the privilege of being a caregiver for my parents. Both have experienced dementia and because we have kept them in their own home, they have required 24-hour home care assistance. Additionally, we have navigated through various other services, including home health care, palliative care, and hospice care. On a personal level, I have experienced firsthand the sacrifice required of both the caregiver and their own family at home. The support of my husband and two daughters has been key to allowing me to provide care for my parents. Without their understanding and sacrificing their time with me, I would never have realized this joy. It is their unwavering support that has led me to begin Encompass, so that I can share my experiences with others.
While this season of life has been challenging and busy, my background in occupational therapy has significantly helped me be a strong advocate for others. I am passionate about coming alongside other caregivers and supporting them in their journey.
